Cigarette Smoking Could End by 2030

New data has shown that cigarette smoking in London will be virtually wiped out by 2030 if people continue to quit at this current rate. According to official figures from the Annual Population Survey, smoking prevalence in London was 15.2% in 2016, and declining at a rate of 3 percentage points every 4 years which would put prevalence below the target of 5% by 2030.

There are around 1.3 million smokers in London and roughly one in three adults want to give up. You’ve probably tried to kick the habit at least once already – and you’re not alone in that, but don’t let this stop you! Research shows that you are more likely to succeed at quitting with the right support.

A new stop smoking helpline has been launched for Londoners, who want to get professional help and support. The helpline provides a convenient way to access good quality, specialist advice on how to quit smoking. It’s also a gateway to finding out more about the range of free and varied support available across the capital.

Telephone-based support fits well into people’s busy lifestyles. It’s perfect if you’ve always wanted to stop smoking, but aren’t sure how, need regular motivation or someone to give you tips and advice about willpower and other issues associated with quitting.

There’s never been a better time to quit smoking! To speak to trained advisers, call the stop smoking helpline on 0300 123 1044, Monday – Friday 9am-8pm and Saturday & Sunday 11am-4pm.
